Music Guidelines

The Three Angels Seventh-day Adventist Church – Owasso recognizes the importance of sacred music in its worship services and other programs. Realizing that God has revealed high standards in the areas of worship and music, and recognizing that Satan has successfully infiltrated much of his worship methods and music into the Christian churches of today, we resolve to maintain the high standards set forth by the Bible, Spirit of Prophecy, and the Church.

We believe that a Seventh-day Adventist church service should be different. It should reflect the distinct message and mission that God has entrusted to us in the last days as we expectantly wait and prepare for our Savior’s soon return. It is our desire to foster a joyous, yet reverent atmosphere in the worship of our God.

We deeply appreciate all who offer their gifts and talents to God in the area of music in our worship services. We would ask that you respect our convictions in this area and abide by the following guidelines:

  1. Please coordinate all special music through the designated Special Music Coordinator.
  2. Please select and conduct music that is in accordance with the General Conference Guidelines on Music (both the 1972 and 2004 versions).
  3. We respectfully ask that you not use taped accompaniment tracks (“canned” music). Instead, we encourage you to make arrangements in advance with the Special Music Coordinator for live accompaniment.
  4. Please dress in a modest, respectful, and reverent manner so as not to distract from the sacred message of your song.
  5. Please be aware that we encourage enthusiastic “Amens,” but we discourage the use of applause in worship services. “Let all the people say, Amen ” (Psalms 106:48).
  6. Those in charge of Mission Spotlight and/or other media transmissions or recordings in the church services should preview the material to ensure the music track is in accordance with the above guidelines.

“You must not worship the LORD your God in their way [surrounding heathen nations]” (Deuteronomy 12:4, NIV).

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16).
